Jalandhar : The NRI Sabha Punjab president on Friday sought documents of former president Pritam Singh Naurangpur within a fortnight to prove his status as an NRI failing, which his membership from the sabha would be cancelled.

NRI Sabha president Jasvir Singh stated in a press release that the sabha was all set to update the data of around 25,000 Punjabi NRI members settled across the world. “Under this exercise, we required to update the data of our members and Naurangpur should prove that he was an NRI too,” he said.

Gill also said that undue interference of people not associated with the functioning of NRI Sabha would not be tolerated. “Naurangpur had been openly releasing statements in the public against the Sabha, whereas he was not even an NRI. He was deported from the US and he could never show his documents to prove himself as an NRI,” he said.

The NRI Sabha president said that if Naurangpur was not deported from the US, then he should deposit his documents to the sabha. “If he failed to do so, his NRI Sabha membership would be cancelled,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that Naurangpur remained the president of NRI Sabha in the year 2002 and even at that time questions were raised over his NRI Status. “At that time also the NRI Sabha had asked him to show his documents but he failed to do so. He kept delaying the issue, until his tenure was over and never produced his documents. This clearly shows that he was not even an NRI, as he never got the PR of any country,” he said.
