Oblivious of tragedy, NRI couple’s daughter craves for parents

CHANDIGARH: “Where are Mom and Dad?” were the first words nine-year-old Ananya uttered when she regained a little consciousness after undergoing ribs surgery here at GMCH 32. Her parents, NRI couple from UK, Roopesh Nawarkhele and Kavita Nawarkhele, were cremated here at Sector 25, a day after the fatal accident.
The accident on Vikas Marg road between a Himachal Roadways bus and a Swift car had left five people dead and 15 injured.
Vikas, a relative of Ananya, said soon after opening her eyes Ananya asked for her parents. “We did not disclose to her about the death of her parents as she is not in a condition to take stress. The doctors have advised not to tell her about the tragic news,” he said.
Soon after the post-mortem, the body of the deceased couple was taken to the cremation ground at Sector-25 for the funeral rites.
Heart rending scenes were witnessed at the cremation ground as the couple was consigned to flames.
The parents of both Roopesh and Kavita were informed about the death only after they reached the city. Arun Mohite and Sandhya Mohite, parents of Kavita, and BN Nawarkhele and Vijaya, parents of Roopesh, ar rived at the cremation ground. The pyres were lit by Ketan Mohite, an army officer and brother of Kavita. Brother of Roopesh, Rajesh is also an officer with the Indian Army.
The NRI couple had earlier also visited the city beautiful about five years back to meet some friends and relatives. This time they were on a holiday trip. The NRI couple was on way to Delhi after meeting Roopesh’s brother Rajesh in Dharamshala. COUPLE HAD ‘FRACTURES IN BRAIN’: REPORT
The post-mortem reports suggested that both Roopesh and Kavita died due to fractures in the brain. Rupesh had fractures in the ribs and brain, while his wife Kavita had fracture in the brain. They died within a couple of minutes of the accident.
