The ‘rude shock’, which sent shock wave in Adampur came to the fore on Wednesday, when the parents of deceased youth-Harjit Singh were about to perform his last rites in the cremation ground.

The body packed in a coffin came from Doha Qatar at Amritsar airport on September 16. At the time of cremation, the family members and relatives opened the coffin and were left shocked and numb to notice that the body was not that of their son Harjit.

Leaving the cremation mid-way, they left for a mortuary in Khurdpur village to keep the body and came to meet Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner.

Harjit Singh, a resident of Mohalla Sarja in Adampur, had gone to Doha Qatar around six months ago.

The youth had died on September 5 in a cylinder blast in a jail in Doha Qatar. Five youth were killed in the blast which included an Indian, Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi and another national. Chief Parliamentary Secretary-cum-Adampur MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu informed Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kishore Yadav who further took up the matter with Resident Commissioner in Delhi K Siva Prasad.

“I spoke to officials of Embassy of Qatar at Delhi, who assured that they would check the other bodies lying in their mortuary and accordingly send the body of the deceased youth,” he said.

Tinu maintained that according to the officials the body was sent, after it was verified by one of the relative of Harjit in Doha Qatar.
