Chandigarh: The Punjab government has decided to ensure investigation of cases involving NRIs in a time-bound manner and issued instructions to fast-track the disposal of such complaints.
NRI Affairs Minister Tota Singh announced this while presiding over a meeting with representatives of the NRI community, here on Wednesday.
He also said the Punjab government has requested the Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice to set up more NRI courts in the state for which the state government was ready to bear all expenses. Singh asked the NRIs to constitute five-member district committees which would be given recognition by the state government, according to an official release here. He said that these committees would be attached with the NRI police stations that would help in resolving NRI disputes amicably.
Singh said according to proclaimed offender cases, the state government was collecting a complete data of NRIs who had been declared as POs to re-examine their cases.
