Each district to get NRI Sabha

Chandigarh : The Punjab government would soon set up NRI Sabha in each district of the state for the facilitation of NRIs, besides giving them necessary information regarding their issues relating to the state government.
Disclosing this, here on Friday, an official spokesperson said that the state government was contemplating to form such bodies in each district with a view to safeguard rights of NRIs and making them aware about the exclusive policies and programmes for non-resident Punjabis.
He said that NRI Affairs Minister Tota Singh has given nod in this regard and the proceedings would initiate soon to set up NRI Sabha at the district levels.
He said that the minister was also keen to resolve the pendency of cases and issues pertaining to NRIs in minimum time. Instructions in this regard have been issued to all Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners, IGP NRI Affairs, Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police so the NRIs could not have to face harassment.
Giving details of the units to be set up at the district levels, the spokesperson said the staff of NRI Sabha in each district would provide necessary information to non-resident Punjabis. He said that there were 11 exclusive NRI police stations in the state to ensure speedy and time-bound redressal of their issues.
He said the Punjab government was fully committed to safeguard the rights and interests of NRIs, following which NRI police stations, special revenue courts, fast-track courts, NRI sammelans and media campaigns were adopted.
A special web portal for NRIs had also been launched so that NRIs can track their application along with getting current status of the same.
