Nawanshahr: The Nawanshahr Police on Tuesday recovered chopped-off bodyparts of a woman, sealed in sacks, from a well in an abandoned place near Banga in Nawanshahr district, thereby solving the murder of a woman by a UK based NRI.
UK-based NRI, Gurnam Singh (50) murdered his wife, Narinder Kaur and hurriedly flew back to England. A police party recovered the bodyparts packed in three sacks, from the well, after the arrest of one Balbir Singh, who was the friend of the NRI from Banga.
DSP Banga Sarabjit Singh said that the murder mystery came to light with the arrest of Balbir. “Gurnam Singh murdered his wife, as she had refused to give him divorce. We recovered Narinder’s naked body parts including head, arms, legs and torso packed separately in three sacks from the well,” he said.
Narinder Kaur (34), a resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP) married Gurnam Singh in 2011, as the first wife of Gurnam, who was also living in UK could not bear a child.
The father of Narinder, Gurdev Singh said that his daughter signed a contract marriage with Gurnam with the promise of taking her to UK.
“It was decided with mutual consent between the couple that Gurnam would take Narinder to UK and marriage would be solemnized legally. According to the contract, Gurnam gave divorce to his first wife in England and married Narinder Kaur in India and had decided to take her abroad”, the father said to the police.
Gurdev maintained that Gurnam along with his first wife Satinder Kaur reached India and were residing in Banga in a house along with his daughter.
“Later, when Gurnam was blessed with two children, he started harassing my daughter for divorce. Gurnam had promised to take the kids to UK along with his first wife but my daughter was not willing,” he said.
