Indian students win UK scholarships

UK-based University of Sheffield awarded scholarships worth over ` 1 crore to Indian students recently. The university gives out scholarships worth over £2 million ( ` 20 crore) every year as part of its international scholarship programme.

These scholarships are for international students enrolling for undergraduate and postgraduate courses who show exceptional academic potential. This year, the university awarded five India Postgraduate Merit Scholarships and five India Undergraduate Merit Scholarships worth £7,000 ( ` 7 lakh) each.

One of India Undergraduate Merit Scholarships winners, Saylee Jangam from Pune, who is enrolled in the bio-engineering programme, said, “Being able to pursue a multidisciplinary course like bio-engineering at the University of Sheffield is a great opportunity.”

Chennai girl Rohini Venkatesh who is pursuing her MSc in stem cell and regenerative medicine, said upon receiving the award, “It was a great honour to be recognised for my academic performance.”

All the 10 self-fund ing undergraduate and postgraduate Indian students have also received an auto matic scholarship of £2000 ( ` 2 lakh) each in addition to the scholarship amount. Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
