LONDON: Harnaam Kaur, who has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest female with a full beard, is delighted with the title and says it is “absolutely humbling” to be included in the 2017 edition.

Based in Slough, Berkshire, Kaur’s inclusion in the Guinness Book was announced on Wednesday by the organisers along with other new records.

Kaur, who has been in the news in the British media in recent years, has polycystic ovary syndrome. This causes her body to produce more male hormones, which can trigger the growth of excess body hair. She says she has been the subject of bullying due to the condition.

But the condition has not dampened her spirits - she has appeared as a catwalk model and body image activist and campaigns against bullying.

Guinness World Records said: “Now with a beard measuring as long as six inches in places, she overcame years of bullying to take ownership of her appearance and achieve this record title at the age of 24 years 282 days.

“She describes her place in the Guinness World Records book as ‘absolutely humbling’ and hopes it will help her to impart her empowering message. 2016 has been a huge year for Harnaam, having become the first female with a beard to walk the runway at London Fashion Week in March.”

A delighted Kaur said on social media: “I can now proudly announce that I am a Guinness World Record book holder. I have been wanting to publish this news for absolutely ages, but I had to keep things under wrap until the book launched.”

“I am super proud to hold this record, the inner child in me is so pleased,” she added.
