Chandigarh : After the portfolio rejig in Punjab Cabinet, Mr. Gurpreet Singh Kangar assumed office as the Revenue Minister in Punjab Civil Secretariat on Monday.

Talking to the media, the Minister informed that sprucing up staff and infrastructure for better delivery of services to Public would be his top priority. He said that Patwaris play a very important role in the Revenue Department but unfortunately there is an acute shortage of patwaris which affects the work of the Department at ground level, hence immediate steps would be taken to fill up the vacancies. Simultaneously, vacancies on other posts would also be filled through promotions and direct recruitment.

He said that some delays and deficiencies have been reported in the Online Registration Process. To resolve the same, technical support from NIC, Pune is being sought. Besides, infrastructure in Tehsil Complexes in terms of drinking water, seating arrangement, washrooms etc would be ensured for the public.

Earlier, in an informal introductory meet with the officers of the department, Kangar asked them to work in a team spirit and with utmost dedication. He sought suggestions for improvement in the working of the department in the interest of Public. The Minister assured them that he would be always available and accessible to his staff for the quick redressal of issues involving his direct intervention. Mr. Manashvi Kumar IAS, Special Secretary Revenue & Rehabilitation and Mr. Paramjit Singh IAS(Retd), OSD Revenue extended floral welcome to the Minister on behalf of the officials of the Department.
