Cong raises issue with Police Commissioner on violation of RBI guidelines

Jalandhar :A Jalandhar Congress leader has raised the issue of black marketing of new currency notes going on rampantly in the market, which was stark violation of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

Sanjay Sehgal from RTI Cell of District Congress on Sunday sent a letter to Commissioner of Police Yurinder Singh Hayer highlighting that Indian currency notes were being stapled and used for making currency garlands .

The RTI activist said that according to RBI guidelines, new currency notes could not be stapled but it was easily available in the local markets. He even cited that bank officials and currency chest department officials were involved in black marketing of new notes.

In his letter, the Congress leader also maintained that the new currency notes were not easily available to the public, especially the account holders in different banks. “The RBI has directed all the banks and consumers that not to staple the notes and stop the use of pins. Rather the RBI has sought the use of paper bands, rubber bands or threads to bundle them”, he said.

The congress leader also maintained that it was observed that new currency notes were being stapled and used for making currency garlands with the denominations of Rs 10, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000. “I have written to the Commissioner of Police to take action in the interest of the National Liquid Assets, conduct surprise raids and stop the black marketing of the new currency notes, which was used in the market for doing the business of currency garlands”, he added.
