Bathinda : Two groups of Shiromani Akali Dal from Mansa town on Friday had a clash inside the CM’s residence at Badal village.

In the ruckus, Mansa Municipal Council’s senior vice-president Gurmel Singh reportedly lost his turban and one of his associates Mandeep Gora, also a councillor in Mansa, suffered an injury on his arm.

Shockingly, the incident took place in the presence of various police officials, including two Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs).

After the incident, Gurmel Singh, as learnt, lodged his complaint with the Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and showed him the turban in hand. Sukhbir then asked the police officials to handle the issue on merit.

The cops then asked the complainant group to get the statements recorded with them at Lambi police station an assurance to do the needful after thorough probe.

According to the details, the 27-member Mansa Municipal Council was plagued with factionalism. Of the total, the SAD has its 14 councillors, who are further divided into two groups-one led by president Balwinder Singh Kaka and another headed by the vice-president Gurmel Singh Thekedar.

Their gap widened few days back as the Municipality received a grant of Rs 21 crore for the development works. Thekedar group accused Kaka of pilfering funds.

The matter reached the Deputy CM and he called all of them at his residence on Friday, where he held a meeting with all and told them to work in a cohesive manner.

As Thekedar furthered some documents in support of his allegation against Kaka, Sukhbir marked a probe to the DIG Bathinda range Ranbir Singh Khattra stipulating the deadline of May 5.

Once agreed to follow the direction, they all came outside his office, but indulged in a physical duel just outside the waiting hall in the CM residence. They also hurled abuses to each other with impunity.

The police officials present on the spot were shocked to witness the incident as it happened for the first time. A hurried intervention of cops controlled the situation and Kaka group left for Mansa, while Thekedar group was taken to police station for the statement purposes, where the group members also stated that Thekedar was a staunch SAD member, whereas Kaka had come from the Congress.

Speaking to media persons there, Thekedar announced that he could also quit the party if action was not taken against the accused.

Balwinder Singh Kaka, however, refuted all the allegations of assaulting Gurmel and his supporters, stating that he had left the CM’s residence before the things took place. He also rubbished the allegations of bungling with the funds meant for the development of the town.
