Rana’s case in Rahul’s court, decision likely on January 18. The political fate of Power and Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh is set to be decided in the durbar of All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday. Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh along with Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunil Jakhar have proceeded to attend the meeting of seniors leaders of all states under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, which is scheduled for Wednesday. Sources said that the party high command had asked to submit the resignation of Rana to them and that there was lot of pressure on Captain Amarinder.

Speaking to reporters in a function in Mohali, the CM said that Rana Gurjit had submitted his resignation on January 4, adding that he would discuss it with Rahul Gandhi and then take a call on it. But sources said that expansion of Punjab Cabinet is likely to be deferred for at least two-three months. Daily Post has published a news item on January 10 about the political fate of Minister Rana Gurjit, who has been facing alleged sand-mining, land-grabbing and Hawala money charges. Notably, Rana’s son has also been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate over alleged illegal fundraising abroad recently.

Rana Gurjit has submitted his resignation, but not offered resignation, it is very clear now. But there is confusion between the statement of CM Captain Amarinder and Rana Gurjit. While speaking to reporters, the CM said that he had received Rana’s resignation on January 4, but Rana said that he had submitted his resignation 4 days ago. Meanwhile, politicking has expedited after the resignation of Rana Gurjit. Captain Amarinder and Jakhar have proceeded to Delhi, where there they will meeting within-charge of Punjab affairs Asha Kumari and some other senior leaders and later with Rahul Gandhi.

Sources said that decision on Rana’s resignation was likely to be announced on January 18. Sources said that Cabinet expansion issue is likely to linger on for two-three months following Ludhiana Corporation election, Mayor’s election for three Corporations, one year celebrations of Captain Amarinder Singh’s government and Budget session of Punjab government.
