Chandigarh – Punjab Power and Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, accused by the opposition of illegally bagging Sand mining contracts, has submitted his resignation to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who is yet to act on it. Speaking to Daily Post, Power and Irrigation Minister Rana Gurjit Singh said that he submitted his resignation four days ago on moral rounds following allegations of wrongdoings in sand mining auctions. He said that allegations would be proved false as there is no truth in them. He said that he had submitted his resignation willfully, not under pressure from any person like Sukhpal Singh Khaira. He also said that Khaira should submitted resignation from his post as there are heinous allegations against him in a drug case.

CHANDIGARH: Chief Minister Amrinder Singh, while talking to reporters in Mohali, said that Rana Gurjit Singh had submitted resignation on January 4. The CM said that resignation has not been accepted yet. He said that the decision on the resignation of Rana Gurjit would be taken after meeting with party president Rahul Gandhi. Rana Gurjit is believed to be very close to the CM.
Fall of first wicket in Captain’s team
CHANDIGARH: A faction of Punjab Congress, known to be anti-Captain in most quarters, has described the resignation of Rana Gurjit Singh as the fall of the first wicket of Captain Amarinder’s team. A former president of state unit said that the party high command had sought the resignation of Rana Gurjit. Although the CM was trying to protect him, but it will be the first real test for Rahul as he has introduced Zero corruption tolerance policy in the party. The former state president said that now it was turn of the bureaucrats, who have been running the government and blatantly ignoring elected representatives.
