CHANDIGARH: Four legislators of the Punjab Congress have accused the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of trying to disturb the law and order in Haryana.
Legislators Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Ramanjit Singh Sikki issued a joint statement here on Saturday that as Sikh Congressmen, they had seen in the past in Punjab how these little sparks could lead to a big fire that would rage for a very long time.
They said Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal was trying to hide the failures of his government by raking up the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) issue for political advantage. “If Badal or the SAD had any reservation to the decision of Haryana’s assembly and governor, they could move the Supreme Court instead of sending armed goons to the gurdwaras in Haryana,” read the statement.
The Congress MLAs (members of the legislative assembly) said they were surprised that Badal had “not shed a tear for the thousands of youth killed by drugs and the thousands of farmers who committed suicide”. They said that to keep the hard-earned peace of Punjab, “the Akalis should not make Haryana an arena of their political fight or create a wedge between the Hindus and Sikh of the two states”.
The asked Badal to call back “his armed goons” and take legal recourse. They cautioned Prime Minister Narender Modi against falling into the “Badal trap”, saying if the situation in Haryana was not handled properly, then the entire north India might have to pay a price.
