Chandigarh : Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh, has said that he would join election campaign in Patiala on August 9.

“The Lok Sabha session, which has been shortened by a few days, will conclude on August 8 and I will reach Patiala the next day”, said Amarinder Singh. He said he would get about two weeks to campaign in Patiala where the bypoll has been necessitated following his resignation from the Assembly.

Elected three times in a row to the Assembly, Capt Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur is the Congress candidate from the constituency.

“I may not get enough time to campaign in Talwandi Sabo constituency because I will have to spare a lot of time to discharge my duty as the deputy leader of the Congress in Delhi,” he said.

Besides Patiala, Amarinder has a considerable influence in Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district. In fact, he was first time elected to the Assembly in the 1980s from Talwandi Sabo as a SAD candidate.

‘Badal undermining federalism’
Asserting that creation of the HSGMC was within the jurisdiction of Haryana, Amarinder accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of “undermining” the principle of federalism. “The move is within the jurisdiction of the state according to the concurrent list in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution,” he said.
