AMRITSAR: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday urged the Akal Takht to remain above politics to maintain the sanctity of the sacred institution and give its blessings to the newly constituted Haryana SGMC besides revoking the excommunication of three Sikh leaders from the state.
“The Akal Takht is too high an institution to be seen to be political and it must remain above politics,” he remarked.
In a statement issued here, Amarinder said, “With all humility I say that there was no violation of the maryada in constituting the Haryana SGMC as it was very much the demand of the Sikhs in that state.”
The former chief minister said, “The Akal Takht has done well by preventing the congregation of Sikhs at Amritsar and Kar nal as that would have antagonised the community members against one another.
