Kapurthala: Protesting Municipal Council employees continues to be at loggerheads with the state government over their demands as the protest entered its 21st day, on Sunday. Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi warned the protesting officials to end their protest and resume their duties from coming Monday or face departmental action, while the protesters threatened to intensify their agitation.
Local MLA Rana Gurjit Singh also rushed in to support the protesting employees at Shalimar Garden on Friday. It is pertinent to mention here that about 14 categories of Class -III employees working in the Municipal Councils across Punjab are on indefinite strike from August 4 for their long-pending demands opposing recently issued departmental notification of postionalisation of clerical posts and merging of water supply wing with the Punjab Sewerage Board, abolition of contractual system, initiating of solid waste work on government level.
Talking to the media, Joshi said that he had already directed the Local Bodies Directors deduct salaries of all protesters. Addressing the protesters, Rana Gurjit Singh flaying the SAD-BJP combine said that the ruling government failed at all fronts. He assured the protesters that the party would stand support with them and raise their demands in the Assembly. Municipal Karamchari Sagathan state president Sardari Lal Sharma said the municipal employees will continue their agitation.
