Ropar : After the announcement of list of office bearers by District Congress president Harbhag Singh Saini, the party leadership in Ropar has started raising their voice against the district president.

On Saturday, some senior Congress leaders opposed the removal of three block presidents of the district by the party. Saini had announced the list of new office bearers of the district congress on Friday according to which new block presidents were appointed along with other office bearers.

The Congress leaders, including former minister Romesh Dutt Sharma, MLAs Rana K P Singh and Bhag Singh, former District Congress Committee president Sukhwinder Singh Whisky and Zaildar Satwinder Singh Cherrian said that the removal of Nangal block president Sanjay Sahni, Anandpur Sahib block president Rajinder Singh and Morinda block president Kultar Singh was unconstitutional. They claimed that these block presidents were duly elected for the post and their term expired in 2015.

They maintained that the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee or the District Congress Committee had no right to remove these block presidents, adding that only All India Congress Committee (AICC) had the powers to remove the same.

The Congress leaders said that the AICC secretary in-charge Harish Chaudhary had told them that three block presidents would continue to remain on their posts and would not be removed. When contacted, PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa said that it was within his constitutional right to remove or appoint the block presidents.

Bajwa said that the block president of Morinda was appointed on the recommendation of concerned MLA Charanjit Singh Channi while block president of Anandpur Sahib had gone abroad and had given in writing that he does not want to continue.

The work of block president of Nangal was unsatisfactory as he had failed to attend the meeting of District Congress Committee.
