Ropar : To rein in dissidence among the party workers and for better co-ordination, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) would soon appoint leaders in charge of districts.

The list was being finalised and the names for all districts would be announced in a day or two, said PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa. He said the district in charge would send monthly reports of block level and district level activities of the party workers. “The party will evaluate workers on the basis of reports submitted by these leaders,” he said.

Bajwa said the names of party candidates for the forthcoming civic body elections would be finalised only after the recommendation of the newly appointed in charge for districts.

Asked about dissent against him by various Congress leaders in different parts of the state, Bajwa said the number of such leaders was not significant. He claimed a majority of the party workers in the state were with him.
