Congress leaders sit on hunger strike

FATEHGARH SAHIB: The controversy over the verbal duel between Congress MLA Kuljeet Singh Nagra and subdivisional magistrate (SDM) Pooja Syal Grewal took a new turn on Monday when some Congress leader sat on hunger strike in front of an administrative complex, demanding transfer of the SDM.

The leaders who sat on hunger strike included former municipal councillor Gulshan Kumar and other Congress workers Kamlesh Kumar, Sonu Vidhar, Parget Singh and Rupinder Singh.

They sat on the strike to put pressure on the local administration and the state government to transfer the SDM.

District Congress president Harinder Bhambhari and Nabha MLA Sadhu Singh Dharamsot also visited the protestors.

Addressed the supporters, they said the SDM had leveled baseless allegations against Nagra. They added that she did not follow the protocol and when Nagra told her that she had violated the protocol, she lodged a complaint against him accusing him of using abusive language against her in a MC meeting held at Sirhind on September 16.

The meeting was called to address issues related to antiencroachment drive and the Congress MLA had taken the affected people where the SDM violated the protocol by humiliating the public representative.

Condemning effigy spree continued by the Congress and Akali Dal, former deputy speaker and former Sirhind MLA Bir Devinder said why were the political parties trying to make a issue when both the Congress MLA Kuljit Nagra and the SDM had submitted their complaints to the competent authorities for probing.
