Amritsar : The Bharatiya Janata Party has come forward in the favour of Navjot Singh Sidhu and strongly criticised the Akal Takht Jathedar statement over the issue of ‘Jan Kalayan Havan’ that was organised by former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu. However Sidhu and his wife cum cheif Parliament secretary Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu keep mum over the issue.
It is pertinent to mention here that Navjot Singh Sidhu had organised a ‘havan’ for ‘Jan Kalayan’ on the occasion of his 52th birthday at his city residence on Monday. Taking a note of it seriously, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has raised question on cricketer cum former MP Navjot Singh Sidhu for organising a ‘havan’ and said that being a Sikh, Sidhu should not have organised the havan at his residence as it is against our Sikh culture.
The Bharatiya Janata Party national vice president Lakshmi Kanta Chawla wrote a letter to the Akal Takht Jathedar and urged him not to divide communities (societies) on the name of God and instead put efforts to create a kind of atmosphere where all the communities’ peoples unite at a single platform to get God’s blessings.
She said that she did not want to write more in this regard to keep in mind the highest temporal and respectable seat of Sikhs. She criticised Jathedar words that Sidhu was not a real Sikh as a true Sikh cannot perform havan. She said that Akal Takht was a highly respectful holy place for the whole communities, but Giani Gurbachan Singh’s statement hurts the feeling of lakhs of people of different communities.
She said that thousands of Hindu families’ perform ‘Akhand Path’ at their residences on different occasions and it does not mean that they were working against the Hindu religion.
