SRI HARGOBINDPUR (GURDASPUR): Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa has demanded resignation of the deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state which, he said, was evident in the wake of the rape-cum-murder of a minor girl in Ludhiana.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Bajwa said before the girl was brutally set on fire, her parents had repeatedly pleaded with the police to provide them protection following the threat from the accused. The girl had earlier charged the accused with abduction and rape, he added.

Bajwa said that the parents of the girl approached the police on December 2 and 3 seeking protection after they were threatened. He said the accused entered their house on December 4 and set the minor on fire. She died of burn injuries on December 9. He said that it was the deputy CM who was responsible for this state of affairs as he also happened to be the home minister.
