CHANDIGARH: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Wednesday dared the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to recall Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union cabinet on the issue of amendment to the Land Acquisition Act and end its alliance with the BJP.
In a statement issued here, Bajwa stated that if the SAD was serious about confronting the Narendra Modi government on the land bill, Badal should give an assurance to the people that his party would break its alliance with the BJP on this issue rather than trying to mislead them.
“You can’t sail in two boats. Going by its past record, the SAD has the habit of backtracking from its hyperbolic statements. I would like to remind Parkash Singh Badal about the inclusion of Udham Singh Nagar in Uttarakhand when Uttar Pradesh was to be bifurcated during the previous NDA regime. The SAD had then stoutly opposed it. However, the SAD continued in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government even after this demand was rejected and the party did not lodge even a symbolic protest then,” Bajwa said.
Bajwa claimed that on several issues related to Punjab, the BJP government had ignored Badal.
