CHANDIGARH: Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar on Sunday slammed the Punjab government for “having failed to employ” workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in 6,104 village panchayats of the state.
Jakhar also demanded the release of the pending Rs 60 crore for which the workers had been protesting for months.
“Due to the mismanagement by the government, the workers in almost half the villages could not get one-day employment,” Jakhar said, adding that despite having received a grant of ` 189.5 crore from the Centre under MNREGA, the state government did not give a single rupee to these workers.
