HOSHIARPUR: Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa todat alleged that SAD ‘purchased’ votes to win the Dhuri byelection.

Answering media queries at district Congress office where he had arrived to galvanise party leaders for the April 19 farmers rally which is being held in New Delhi against the proposed land acquisition bill, said that the SAD won the election through crooked means. “The election was rigged. We complained to the election commission but it did not move”, Bajwa alleged. “Ik-ik vote do do hazaar nu viki (each vote went for Rs 2000)”, he alleged.

He put an equal blame on former Dhuri MLA Arvind Khanna stating that he had backstabbed the party. “Khanna’s closeness to SAD president Sukhbir Badal is an open secret. To please the latter, he cheated on the party that gave him so much”, he added. Ruling out dissidence in the state Congress unit, he said there was only one person who was hell bent on ruining the party.

“I will not name him, you all know him very well”, he said pointing a finger to former CM and Amritsar MP Captain Amrinder Singh. Bajwa said the Congress would not allow the NDA government to go ahead with the land acquisition ordinance. “Thousands of farmers and Congress workers will reach the Ramlila Maidan to participate in the rally’, he claimed.

Later he held discussions with district president Sunder Sham Arora and other party leaders and asked them to arrange maximum numbers for the rally.
