CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday urged the Punjab & Haryana high court to take suo motu cognisance of controversial Punjab Police ‘cat’-turneddismissed cop Gurmeet Singh Pinky’s reported reappointment as police inspector by the state government on May 16.

Addressing a press conference here along with former Union minister Rajiv Shukla, Bajwa said it appeared as if there was a grand design to bring such criminal elements into the police force so that they can “help” their political masters in the next assembly elections.
“Though reports suggest that Pinky’s appointment was quashed fearing backlash from political opponents, the HC can certainly take a suo motu notice of such a brazen act by the Punjab government.”
Bajwa hailed the high court move to seek a detailed report on the functioning of the Orbit Aviation after the Moga bus incident.
The Punjab Congress chief came down heavily on SAD general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Balwinder Singh Bhunder for his remarks that he had helped drug peddlers in getting bail while he was in jail during Emergency.
Bajwa said Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should expel Bhundar from the party.
“We will launch a public connect programme from June 1. The idea is to apprise the people of accumulation of disproportionate assets,” said Bajwa.
Shukla while reacting to Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur’s statement that the Congress should not forget about the scams unearthed during its tenure, said the Badal family had no moral right to talk about corruption.
