MP, MLA among 20 injured during clash

Ludhiana : Around 20 Congressmen including Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu, MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Rakesh Pandey, District Congress president Gurpreet Bassi Gogi and others were injured in a clash with police during a protest against the state government policies at Mini Secretariat on Monday.

More than 150 Congress leaders and workers were detained and later released by the police after they break the three barricades of police while proceeding to Deputy Commissioner Office to put a lock.Despite the heavy police force deployed the Congress leaders managed to reach the gate of DC office but were stopped by police officials while putting a lock at the door of the office. The police pacified the protest and detained MP Bittu along with 150 Congressmen at various police stations of city. The detainees were released after two hours.

Following the call of protest against the state government decision in levying one per cent less on petroleum products, surcharge on electricity and increase in tax on sale and purchase of property, hundreds of Congress leaders and workers gathered outside the Mini Secretariat in the morning.After that the leaders proceeded towards the office of Deputy Commissioner to lock the doors of the office but they were stopped at the main entry gate of Mini Secretariat where police have installed barricades.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
