CHANDIGARH: ccusing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre of “discriminating” against Punjab, the Congress today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi “had not taken a single decision which could be termed as favourable for the border state”.

“The definition of discrimination against Punjab has acquired a new meaning under the Modi government on whom chief minister Parkash Singh Badal is never tired of showering praises,” Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa said.

Referring to Union minister Jayant Sinha’s statement, he said, “Sinha has categorically stated that Punjab is on the path of prosperity. If it is true, Badal needs to explain why the state government recently imposed cess on petrol, diesel and power.”

On Punjab’s demand for an economic package, Sinha had said, “I think Punjab is getting all necessary support from the Centre.” Bajwa said for years, Badal had been raising the bogey of discrimination at the hands of Congress governments at the Centre. The fact is that Punjab has gained maximum in the two tenures of former PM Manmohan Singh.
