WHEN REMINDED OF AMARINDER’S ATTACK ON THE STATE GOVT, BADAL SAID HE DIDN’T WANT TO GET INTO IT

AMRITSAR: As Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh takes on the state government projecting himself as the next CM candidate, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday took a jibe at him, saying, “This is his old habit and you never know when he again fades away for six months.”

Badal, who reached here in the evening, spoke to HT as he was inspecting the progress of the war memorial coming up in the holy city. When reminded of Amarinder’s attack on the state government during his ongoing Punjab tour, Badal said, “I don’t want to get into detail but this is Amarinder’s old habit. He may again fade away from the scene for six months.”

After launching the mass contact programme in Jalandhar on Wednesday, Amarinder again targeted the Badals in Gurdaspur on Thursday. The Congress leader, who is talking tough against the Punjab government, is also out to show his strength in the party amid his tussle with state party chief Partap Singh Bajwa.

Once again stressing that the transfer of Sikh prisoners to Punjab was no threat to the state, Badal said, “These people have spent decades in jail. Some are even unwell. It was a long-pending demand to bring them back to the home state. So there is no issue.” However, Badal chose not to respond when reminded that state BJP chief Kamal Sharma had said that the BJP was not consulted while transferring prisoners to Punjab.

SIX MORE MERITORIOUS SCHOOLS TO COME UP
The chief minister, who visited the meritorious school here, said the state would have six more such schools and the aim was to further uplift the education sector. With this, the number of meritorious schools in the state will go up to 12.

Badal said intelligent students would have no hassles as far as finances and other basic facilities were concerned. After the students apprised him of the issue of electricity at the school, Badal talked to the Powercom officials to address it.
