RUPNAGAR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) disciplinary committee member and former MLA Bhag Singh has questioned the decision of the disciplinary committee chairman Gopal Krishan Chatrath to issue show-cause notices to Congress leaders.

While talking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Bhag Singh said Chatrath had issued show-cause notices to three Congress leaders on his own and never consulted the four other members of the committee.

The three other members of the panel are Gurkanwal Kaur, a former MLA from Jalandhar, former deputy speaker Jaswant Singh and former Punjab Youth Congress president Rana Varinder Singh.

Chatrath had issued showcause notices to three loyalists of Capt Amarinder Singh -- Jalandhar district (rural) president Jagbir Singh Brar, Muktsar MLA Karan Brar and former MP Satnam Kainth -- for “deliberately acting in a calculated way to defy the party and lower its prestige”.

Bhag Singh said the issuance of the notices was unwarranted and uncalled for and showed Chatrath’s dictatorial attitude.

He said PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa had miserably failed to strengthen and unite the party in the state and the earlier he was removed the better it would be.

He said that only Capt Amarinder Singh was capable of leading the party in the stateand give a tough fight to the SAD-BJP alliance. In reply to a question, he said the Congress had a bright future in the state as people were fed up with the SADBJP misrule and the bubble of the Aam Aadmi Party had burst.
