Gurdaspur : Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh, who addressed his second mass contact programme here today, was at his oratorical best as he put forward his point that the Badals with their “myopic” policies had taken Punjab “one step forward and two steps backward.”

The programme was organised by PPCC member Raman Bahl at Nehru Park. Nearly 24 incumbent and former MLAs were present.

Targeting Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal and Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia, the former CM said:“They are destroying the youth. They must stop indulging in immoral activities and instead set up industrial units which will provide jobs to the younger generation. Setting up of industry is the only way to counter the state’s drug problem. Mere rhetoric will not help. Be practical and bring back those units which have fled to other states. Redefine the state’s tax structure and see the results,” said Amarinder.

Taking on Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, he said: “Badal has remained the CM for five terms and every time his keenness, rather weakness, for establishing focal points, holding Sangat Darshans and opening of Adarsh Schools surfaces with renewed vigour. All these ventures have been colossal failures.

“The focal points have failed to attract industry following which unemployment rate has increased considerably. This has led to drug abuse among the youth. The Sangat Darshans have failed to serve their purpose and even officials clandestinely admit that these programmes have been given political colours following which these have lost relevance. Adarsh Schools have failed to attract private players.”

Raman Bahl, who has been in the forefront of a protest against the alleged land grabbing activities by local MLA GS Babbehali had brought to the venue some families whose plots have allegedly been encroached upon.

Amarinder told the families: “You will get back your plots once the Congress returns to power in the state. Babbehali was in the Congress for a long time. The moment he defected to the SAD and became an MLA, he lost started indulging in illegal activities.”
