JALANDHAR: SP (detective) Gurdaspur, Baljit Singh, who died while fighting terrorists in Dinanagar, had faced the alleged high-handedness of the SAD leaders as he was transferred following a tiff with chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) and Khemkaran MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha in November last year.

This happened when Baljit was posted as SP traffic at Tarn Taran and also held the additional charge of SP (headquarters).
According to a complaint filed by Baljit with the National Commission for Scheduled Castes dated November 1, he accused Valtoha of using derogatory language and passing casteist remarks against him for not agreeing to help him in an “illegal” work.
In the complaint, the copy of which is with HT, the case relates to probe of a pistol recovery based on a complaint by retired police inspector Balkar Singh. Baljit had said the police recovered the pistol from the woman, but instead of taking action against her, the SHO let her off, allegedly at Valtoha’s instance.
Baljit had objected to the probe, and Valtoha allegedly threatened him following which he moved the SC commission and filed a police complaint. The police officer was transferred to PAP Jalandhar on November 14.
National SC Commission vice-chairman Raj Kumar Verka admitted that Baljit had filed the case against Valtoha. “The complaint was filed by Baljit in which he had given details of a phone call from the CPS seeking his help in an illegal work. In January, Baljit told us that the issue had been settled amicably on the intervention of IGP (border range) Ishwar Chandar,” Verka said. Valtoha, when contacted, said there was a misunderstanding between them. “Later we sorted out our differences. He is now a hero for all of us.”
