Chandigarh : Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has opposed the capital punishment saying hanging anyone was no solution.

Referring to Yakub Memon’s hanging, Amarinder said capital punishment was hardly a solution in respect to such people. “Such culprits should remain behind bars for the whole of their lives and it would be biggest punishment for them,” he said.

On Dinanagar terrorist attack, Amarinder said the state government “did nothing” to prevent the attack even as the Centre had issued alert about the possibility of such an incident about 10 days prior to the attack.

He said though, the DGP was denying that any such alert was issued but the alert might have been received by one or the other officer of the state police.
