SAS NAGAR: A local court on Thursday gave permission to Amritsar member of Parliament (MP) Captain Amarinder Singh to go abroad.
Amarinder, who is facing trial for his alleged involvement in the infamous Amritsar Improvement Trust case registered by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau, has been directed to furnish bail bonds of `5 lakh before leaving the country.
In his application, Amarinder had sought permission to go abroad from September 20 to November 4. He told the court that he had to visit the UK, Canada and the US to meet non-residents Indians (NRIs) settled there, besides attending the wedding of a Congress leader’s son in the UK.
The vigilance bureau had registered the case in September 2008 following a report of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha committee that had indicted several persons, including Amarinder and the then local government minister, for having caused a loss of around `130 crore to the state exchequer.
