BATHINDA: After the Congress decided to hold a rally here, party leaders and MLAs from the Malwa region have come into action to make the unscheduled rally a success, especially after the coronation of former chief minister and member of Parliament from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh as president of the party.
Local leaders are going to meet Amarinder on December 3 for a detailed discussion on the rally, which is going to be held in Badals’ bastion. They will also finalise the rally date and venue during the meeting with Amarinder.
Buoyed over a huge response to the SAD’s Sadbhawna rally here on November 23, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had challenged Captain and the Congress to hold a similar rally in Bathinda.
Though Amarinder had already accepted the challenge a day after the rally, yet his coronation as president of the party would be the icing on the cake for the Congress and its workers.
As part of his Punjab tour, Amarinder had held a public rally at Rampura Phul in the district on August 4.
Former MLA from Rampura Gurpreet Singh Kangar, who is a close protégé of the Amritsar MP, said that he had a telephonic conversation with Amarinder after he was announced president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. “Captain Saab has directed us to start initial arrangements. He also directed us to meet him on December 3 to chalk out a strategy for the rally,” said Kangar.
He added, “The date of the rally will be announced by the high command, but we are expecting to hold it before December 10.” Kangar said the venue for the rally would also be decided during the meeting with Amarinder Singh.
Asked whether the Congress was considering the Sadbhawna rally venue for their rally also, Kangar said they are yet to finalise it, but the people, who owned land in the Pearl’s city, have met him and appealed not to hold the rally there since they were cheated by the management of that company.
