Ludhiana: Senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar, who recently resigned from the office of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, said on Sunday that he was absolutely not interested in taking up the assignment yet again.

He said he was not at all interested in the post again. Speaking to reporters after attending a function on Sunday Jakhar said he served the CLP office by putting his best and felt that now it was the time to hand over responsibility to others. “I am extremely thankful to the party high command for giving me an opportunity to serve as CLP leader for more than three years. I did my best to dispose off my suite with full devotion. Now it’s the appropriate time to give this responsibility any other party leader”, Jakhar said.

Commenting on the reports suggesting that in wake of the newly appointed Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh’s choice he could be re-appointed as CLP leader. Jakhar said, “I have already resigned as CLP leader because I was asked to resign by high command. So what is the rationale in reappointing me”. He further added by saying that had I was to lead party inside Assembly I would not have been asked to resign.

He also accused the ruling SAD-BJP alliance for playing diversionary tactics to hide their failures on all fronts. Replying to SAD’s allegations of Congress role in for its Sarbat Khalsa, Jakhar said that Akalis were trying to divert attention of the public from their ‘sins and failures’.

“Congress leaders who attended the Sarbat Khalsa were there as a Sikh not as a Congress leader”. He said though there was nothing more to read between it , Akalis were now trying play politics. Jakhar said Congress never supported the resolutions adopted by the Sarbat Khalsa.
