Sidhu takes oath in Rajya Sabha

Chandigarh : Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu took oath on Thursday as a nominated memeber of the Rajya Sabha.

Dressed in a maroon blazer with a matching turban, Sidhu took the oath in Punjabi. He was previously elected to the Lok Sabha thrice. This was the third time that a member took oath to the upper house since it resumed on Monday. Anand Sharma of the Congress, Subramanian Swamy of the BJP and boxer Mary Kom (nominated) were among those who took oath earlier this week.

He said that he has always preferred to serve Punjab and in future intended to do the same. After being nominated in Rajya Sabha Sidhu bowed to come back in Punjab for the welfare of state as keen to serve the masses. Talking about his nomination in Rajya Sabha, Sidhu described the Prime Minister Narendera Modi as great example of inspiration in his life.

After giving his written statement and conforming telephonically Navjot Singh Sidhu said, “Two years back, I had refused the Rajya Sabha inlieu of relinquishing the ‘Amritsar Lok Sabha’ seat for a fatherly figure. The present nomination by Prime Minister is more significant for me as he is not only a great example of inspiration but a great role model in my life.
