Barnala : Continuing his ‘Samaj Jodo’ campaign in Malwa region in Dhanaula on Sunday, Congress leader Hans Raj Hans said that the complaints with Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission against atrocities on Dalits increased to 7,709 in 2015 as compared to 473 in 2007. The Congress, if voted to power, will re-open all the cases of Dalit atrocities in Punjab, which the SAD have influenced and closed with muscle power and money power. The Congress will get the Dalit community their rights back and give them appropriate compensation and also the accused won’t be spared. The Congress will constitute an independent inquiry commission for early and time-bound solution to all these cases.

While showing his solidarity towards the Dalits in Punjab, Hans said that Punjab has faced major embarrassment in Moga bus tragedy and Abohar Bhim Tank case, the list is endless, there are number of those cases where the poor people don’t come forward to report against powerful influential politicians. Today, Punjab has 35 per cent Dalit population one of the highest in any state of the country, but the Dalits here are unsafe.

Speaking on the farmer community in Punjab, Hans said that today in Malwa daily three farmers and farm labourers are committing suicide due to financial debt. “The state and the Centre are silent on the issue and have not come up with any workable formula yet to safeguard the green bowl of the country,” he added.
