Congress workers, Ludhiana MP clash with cops, hurt in lathi charge

DW Bureau / Ludhiana : Scores of Congressmen led by Member Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu were injured when they clashed with the police while entering the Police Commissioners office at Ludhiana on Friday. The police had to resort to lathicharge and used water cannon to disperse them.
The agitating protestors were carrying colourful bangles with them. They were insisting that these be given to the Deputy Chief Minister and the ministers of the Punjab cabinet for their failure to instill a sense of security among the law abiding citizens and in the hope that they will do something for their security out of shame.
The police force which was requisitioned in large numbers from the adjoining districts had put up several layers of barricades in the morning itself well before the congress workers started gathering for the massive protest.
Later to bring the situation under control and to disperse the slogan shouting spirited congressmen the police took into custody Ravneet Singh Bittu, Surinder Dawar, Bharat Bhushan Ashu and all several senior congress leadership to the Sarabha Nagar Police station.
Before this while speaking to the mammoth gathering Ravneet Singh Bittu blamed the timid Punjab Government for the day by day deteriorating law and order situation in the state particularly in Ludhiana. He accused the Badal family of patronizing the anti-social elements in last nine years through SOI and Youth Akali Dal. The Punjab has come to such a pass that there is no fear of law among the anti-social elements. Those in jails are orchestrating the killings of their opponents in gang wars and they have the audacity to mock at the face of our police personnel by taking credit for the killings through facebook and other social media sites, he said.
Holding the Deputy Chief Minister personally responsible for the present situation, Ravneet said it seems the Deputy Chief Minister who also holds the home portfolio is sitting idle wearing bangles. Never before in the history of Punjab the Government has been so helpless as it is now. The daily interference of the Government is not allowing the police to do its duty. Today, our intelligence agencies are neither in a position to thwart any criminal conspiracy nor the police force is in a position to catch the culprits after the deadly attacks, he remarked.
While asking the gathering to work for the Badal Mukt Punjab, Ravneet questioned how come the persons who took away Sri Guru Granth Sahib from village Buraj Jawahar Singh Wala in Punjab eight months back to create communal disturbance are still unknown? How come the persons who had desecrated Sri Guru Granth Sahib at village Bargari in Punjab to flare communal violence remain unknown despite several months have passed? Said Bittu.
How come the persons who fired at Mata Chand Kaur and killed her at the secured Bhaini Sahib dera to create rift within the sect are stay unknown? How come the mastermind of the murderous attempt on Sant Ranjeet Singh Dhadrian Wale where one of his accompli was killed to make sikh groups indulge in violence is unknown to the people? Ravneet asked whom the Government is trying to shield by not ordering a CBI probe into the murderous attack of Sant Dhadrianwale as demanded by him? and when our preachers who are respected world-wide are unsafe who is safe in Punjab? Said Bittu.
Bittu threatened that the congress party would resort to similar agitations in other parts of Punjab if the State Government failed to perform and check the rising incidents of crime. He announced that he is willing to even go to jail for the cause of his people. Immediately, thereafter the protesters alongwith him marched towards the complex giving a tough time to the police.
