Jakhar alleges favouritism in distribution of blue cards

FAZILKA: With the assembly polls less than a year away, state Congress vice-president and Abohar MLA Sunil Jakhar seems to be stepping up his activity in the assembly segment. This is evident from back to back protests by the Punjab Congress’s chief spokesperson on issue related to people of his assembly segment.
After leading two days protest against alleged non-availability of water for agricultural purposes in Abohar last week, Jakhar on Thursday alleged preferential treatment to SAD-BJP supporters while issuing blue cards (beneficiaries of Atta-Dal scheme) for poor under the food security act and staged a protest at the office of sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Abohar.
Accompanied by party workers, Jakhar raised slogans against the ruling alliance. The senior state Congress leader said that about 32,000 applications for blue cards were received last year, out of which only 18,000 were cleared by the administration on directions of SAD-BJP men.
He alleged that in each approval concerned, SDM has to sign but not a single form has been signed by the SDM Abohar which reflects of wrongdoing.
Jakhar alleged the SAD and BJP leaders these days were themselves submitting the forms for making blue cards and officials were accepting the same without even informing the general public that such a process of making new cards was on.
“I along with those who wanted to submit their applications and with a purpose to lodge our protest went to SDM office on Thursday but the SDM left the office and didn’t come back till we were there,” he said alleging that those who deserved have been devoid of this, while many ineligible have been given the cards on directions of men from ruling alliance.
He said that such irregularities in blue cards have been done across the state. Warning the officials, he said that not only the leaders but the officials who are acting on behalf of SAD-BJP would be held accountable for these irregularities once the Congress government is formed in Punjab after 2017 assembly polls.
