Chandigarh : In an open challenge to the Akali Dal, a number of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers have put up hoardings across the state against Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia alleging his involvement in drug smuggling.

One of the hoardings in Shatrana constitutency carries a photo of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal saying, “I proclaim a thousand times that Majithia is a drug smuggler.”

Paramjit Singh Kainth, an AAP leader from Shatrana has issued the hoarding. It carries his photo and a message that he was with Arvind Kejriwal (on this count).

“The fight against drugs is a mass movement now. Our leaders are being harassed by defamation cases. There is no evidence against Majithia as the investigating agencies are either under the state or the Centre but that does not mean that the common man could be gagged, “said Durgesh Pathak, AAP national organisation head.

An unfazed Majithia said he was saddened at the low level of politics AAP was playing. “We knew for the past few days that AAP was up to something like this,” he said.

Similar hoardings have reportedly come up in other parts of the state. “They have wrongly sued our national leader. All volunteers will put up such hoardings. I dare the Akalis to take action against us. Let the government put thousands of such persons in jail for defamation,” Durgesh said adding that nearly 300 such hoardings would be put up in each Lok Sabha constituency before July 29, when the next hearing against Kejriwal is scheduled.

Apart from the Hoardings, the AAP today launched a special number (800 700 6003) inviting a miss call on this number by anyone who believes Majithia is involved in drug trade and Akalis were shielding him. Pathak said the party would not reveal the identity of the caller.

The move also seems to be a part of a counter-offensive launched by the party to take on the Akalis, especially Majithia, who has sued several top level AAP leaders for defamation for accusing him of patronising drug trade in the state.
