Mohali : Former president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday stated that Navjot Sidhu would be personally welcomed by him into the party fold, as and when he decides to join them.

Speaking to the media, Bajwa said, “Navjot Sidhu is like my younger brother. I will personally welcome him in Congress. He is the right person who was in the wrong party. Congress is a secular party, which is the best fit for Sidhu.”

Sympathising with Sidhu and targeting AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for using the former for his own political motives, he said that AAP had played with Sidhu’s sentiments. “Firstly, Kejriwal praised Sidhu for resigning from Rajya Sabha and when Sidhu was left with no other choice, Kejriwal denied Sidhu’s demands,” he said.

Taking on AAP, Bajwa said that Congress was not afraid of AAP in the forthcoming assembly elections in the state. He said, “AAP has lost its integrity in front of public and SAD-BJP government will have to face anti-incumbency in the state. Therefore, Congress will win in 2017. Our fight is with traditional parties only. AAP will be finished in the next few months from Punjab.”

Congress to take up farmers’ issues

Bajwa while interacting with the media in Mohali stated that Congress High Command had formed an agriculture committee in Punjab and he was the in-charge of the committee and would raise farmers’ issues in all 13 Parliamentary constituencies of Punjab.

He said that Congress will hold its first rally in Gurdaspur on August 26, where senior party leaders like PPCC chief Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab in-charge Asha Kumari, former Union Minister Ambika Soni and former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal among others will take part.
