Chandigarh : The Punjab Congress on Thursday accused Badal government of plunging the state into total anarchy with its patronization of criminal activities and double standards. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) said the total lawlessness prevailing in Punjab is a direct consequence of Badal government’s anti-people and pro-criminal policies.

PPCC leaders Jagmohan Singh Kang, Hardayal Singh Kamboj and Sunder Sham Arora cited the blocking of access to a burial ground by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) sarpanch of Ransike Mira village, Dera Baba Nanak, to expose the double standards of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who had on Thursday announced a Rs 100 crore grant for Christian and Muslim burial grounds in the state.

Dera Baba Nanak incident was brought to light on Thursday by Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who said he had already brought the matter to the notice of Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal and Batala SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon. Both the officials had conveniently chosen to turn a blind eye to his complaint, the PPCC leaders said.

Badals are masters in the art of defrauding the people of Punjab, with their acts of omission and commission bringing the people of the state to the brink of unprecedented lawlessness, anarchy and mafia control, said PPCC leaders. They pointed out that incidents exposing Badal government’s nexus with criminal, communal and mafia forces in the state had been thoroughly exposed.

Referring to another report of police in Samana booking an Akali MC, along with three others, for abetment to suicide of a school teacher, the PPCC leaders said the deep-rooted nexus between criminals and Akali leaders needed no further validation. Incident after incident has exposed this nexus, which even the Akali leadership is no longer able to defend, they added. “Just a few days ago, an Akali councilor in Sangrur was booked for the murder of a journalist while, in another incident, Youth Akali Dal Malwa secretary Kalyan Singh was arrested for the abduction of a trader,” said top leaders.
