CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Congress Legislature Party leader Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday demanded that the Right To Service Commission should be scrapped immediately as it was a “huge burden” on the public exchequer. Citing information received under the Right To Information (RTI) Act by Congress RTI cell in-charge Dr Jasdeepak Singh, he said ever since this commission was constituted in 2012-13, it has received a total of just 29,019 complaints, of which 28,978 were disposed of. He said the commission had a big set up with one chief commissioner, five commissioners, one secretary and 54 supporting staff. The budgetary allocation for this commission was `82 lakh in 2011-12, `2.6 crore in 2012-13, `2.7 crore in 2013-14, `2.4 crore in 2014-15, `2.7 crore in 2015-16 and `88 lakh till July this fiscal.

SAYS THE COMMISSION COST THE EXCHEQUER `12 CRORE SINCE 2012 AND RECEIVED ONLY 29,000 COMPLAINTS

Channi said despite this, the working of ‘sewa’ and ‘suvidha’ centres was far from satisfactory. “The system was implemented as part of the governance reforms to end corruption in government but the very purpose had been defeated,” he said.
