Vidhan Sabha Obituaries Should Include Departed Padma Shree Awardees - 03/03/2008

Hon. Speaker Vidhan Sabha
Punjab Vidhan Sabha
Sector -1

03 March 2008

Dear Speaker Sahib,

Vidhan Sabha Obituaries Should Include Departed Padma Shree Awardees

I request that you give serious consideration to the subject matter.

This is the point that I wanted to raise today between spoken obituaries but I was not allowed to do so.

Padma Shree awardees have rendered great service to the nation. Therefore, it is only appropriate that the Punjab Vidhan Sabha duly pays tribute to the soul of the departed PUNJABI Pad am Shree recipients.

Had this been the Policy of this house we would today have been able to remember Sardar Kuldeep Singh Virk, late father of Sardar S S Virk, ex-DGP (Punjab).

In doing so the government could have acknowledged its significant role in this said demise by causing unwarranted and unreasonable stress on the departed soul by mounting a politically motivated vendetta against his son.

Mr Badal could then have accepted his government's poor judgment in this matter and could have extended an unconditional apology to the family.

Mr Badal could also have declared in the house that “enough is enough, let there be no more blood spilt; let's move on the politics of reconciliation.

Please review house policy on this and include Padma Shree recipients on the house obituaries.

Kindly list the obituary reference for Padma Shree Kuldeep Singh Virk for tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Jassi Khangura MLA
