Jalandhar : Adding yet another feather in the kitty of Indian origin Punjabis abroad, Rachna Singh, a renowned social activist won in her maiden political innings from Surrey Green Timbers British Columbia as a National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate.

Hailing from Jalandhar, Rachna Singh defeated her political opponent Brenda Locke from Liberal party. Rachna has won from the seat, which was earlier represented by Sue Hammel the sitting MLA. Punjabis from doaba belt of Punjab have made it big abroad by winning major and top political positions in the recent times in Canada.

A known counselor working with drug abuse, alcoholic cases and domestic violence cases, Rachna was associated with CUPE in Canada. She is married to journalist Gurpeet Singh, who is currently a Radio Broadcaster hailing from Jalandhar.

Daughter of renowned writer Dr Raghbir Singh, Rachna migrated to Canada in 2000. This was her maiden political innings, where she won through an active campaign run on social media too.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
