British Honour for Hisar Doctor
His appointment has been made in view of his strong links with the ethnic communities through his groundbreaking work on organ donation. He will also join the Queens Award for Voluntary Service. The Queen has also invited Dr Sharma and his wife, Gita Rani Sharma, for a garden party in London on June 10. He was awarded fellowship by British Medical Association (BMA) for his remarkable contributions to healthcare in Wolverhampton and United Kingdom. The award was conferred upon him by Professor Sir Arulkumaran Sabaratnam, President of BMA , during annual general conference of BMA held in Edinburgh on June 25, 2013. The BMA of United Kingdom has a membership of about 1,56,000 doctors and gives honorary award of fellowship to selected doctors annually for their distinguished services. Now a dual citizen of United Kingdom and India, Sharma has established a charitable trust that awards grants to poor students all over India. He has set up another trust to give scholarship to students of Sanskrit and Hindi at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.
Dr Sharma has served National Health Service of United Kingdom for 36 years. Vice-Chancellor, Health University, Rohtak, Dr S S Sangwan, Head of Medicine Department, Dr P S Gehlot and other senior doctors of PGIMS, Rohtak, have congratulated Dr Sharma for his achievement.
