Jalandhar : The NRI Sabha, Punjab, today threatened to approach the United Nations (UN) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) if the Central Government fails to bring back stranded Punjabis from Iraq. The sabha said it would seek UN's help to track the exact number of stranded Punjabis and approach the ILO to secure the release of wages and passports of youths working for companies there.
"It's been 10 days and the Government of India has failed to provide the details of even a single youth from Punjab. All they say is they are trying to locate them in Iraq. This is a crisis situation. We cannot sit idle and wait for things to get worse. We will seek help from the UN and the ILO if the government fails to rescue our boys," said Jasvir Singh Gill, president, NRI Sabha, Punjab.
