TORONTO: The Canadian police are treating the death of a 20-year-old student from Bathinda as homicide, though no suspects have been identified by investigators.
On Tuesday, responding to an emergency call, the Peel Regional Police found the victim Gurjot Singh, a student of computer programming, with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby trauma centre where he succumbed to the injuries.
Gurjot from Thamangarh village in Bathinda had gone to Canada in March 2018 on a student visa. A spokesperson for Peel Regional Police said a homicide investigation into the case was in progress though there were no updates as this time and no suspect had been identified.
The incident occurred around 10.45pm on Tuesday in the area of Orenda Court and McCallum Court in Brampton, a town in the Greater Toronto Area or GTA.
The Indian consulate in Toronto is making arrangements for transportation of Gurjot’s body back to India.
