New Delhi : Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the US, President Barack Obama has nominated former State Department official Rahul Richard Verma to be the new US ambassador to India.
Picking up a legal professional who was born in Punjab, India, 45 years ago, is believed to be a calculated decision by the US administration to assuage the hurt felt by India when its lady diplomat Devyani Khobargade was subjected to cavity search.
The key expectation from Richard Verma in the brand new, out of box governance is to heal the relationship between the two countries that soured much when envoy Nancy Powell resigned after a dispute over treatment of Devyani.
